I met Fr Jack when he took over St Martin\'s Campus student ministry. I was one of his singers for the student Mass at the Abbey church. That was where he introduced me to Terry Shaw musician and choral director extra ordinare. Fr Jack and I became good friends and shared lunch and conversation for many year regularly until I moved to South Carolina. We kept in touch via email until as recently as a month ago. I was shocked to hear he had passed away. He will be truely missed and was a Great Friend. May the angels take him to our Lord.. Jack Frey

Fr. Jack ran the Newman Center while I was in School at SiU in the early to mid eighties and for several years afterwards. He was locally famous for being able to say a whole daily mass in about ten minutes. I was sorry to hear of his unexpected passing, I hope he enjoyed his retirement and now enjoying Heaven. He will be missed.

Dear Father Jack loved Shakespeare and would make thebtrek from Olympia to Ashland, Oregon’s Shakespeare Festival every October, stopping by our Salem, Oregon apartment for a few days of “forced” sightseeing, wine tastings, movies, hours of hilarious story-swapping, and the mandatory Sunday morning mass at St. Joe’s. He married Marilyn and me in a Denver snowstorm. He was my moral compass at SIU and beloved friend for 40 years. Waaaay back, Jack lived in a mobile home of ours in Silt, Colorado, where he wrote the first of his many books. Oh, I will miss seeing him now on our trips out west. A truly great man, to whom I owe so much for all the joy (and flavored honey) he brought into my life. Bless you, Father Frerker.
