Donald Lamar Goings
Donald Lamar Goings passed away July 5, 2020 at Madigan Army Medical Center, Joint Base Lewis McChord in Tacoma, Washington. He was born August 14, 1945 in Center, Texas.
He graduated from high school in England and enlisted in the Marines at 17. He was in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years, including 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. He went on to serve in the United States Air Force for 16 years. He received numerous decorations, including the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm.
Don served his country in many places including the Philippines and England. He retired as a Staff Sergeant Aircraft Mechanic Crew Chief from the USAF.
Don married his wife of 47 years, Virginia Smith, May 3, 1973.
He loved to garden and could grow just about anything. His passion was fishing of any sort. He was an avid fly fisherman and even tied his own flies. He went fly fishing as often as he was able.
Don was a quiet, reserved, and strong-willed man, but with a good sense of humor. Responsibility, duty and punctuality were his best traits. He will most be remembered for his generosity towards not only his family members, but to all that knew him. He also had a great love for all kinds of animals.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Lamar Goings of Montgomery, AL; mother and step-father, Margurite and Harold Tetrick of Garland, TX; grandmother Arlie Vae Hendricks of Center, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda Ann and Aaron Joiner of Marbury, AL; brothers Stanley Goings and Thomas Eugene Goings of Longview, TX; and brother-in-law, Jeff Greene of Millbrook, AL.
Don is survived by his wife, Virginia Goings of Olympia, WA; daughter Christine Ann Goings of Rochester, WA; step-mother Arlette Goings of Millbrook, AL; sisters Carol Green and Catherine Goings of Millbrook, AL; sisters-in-law Margaret Ann Goings of Center, TX and Tina Goings of Longview, TX; half-brother Rodney Tetrick; and half-sisters, Nancy Tetrick and Karen Bouton all of Texas. Mr. Goings is also survived by nieces and nephews, Amy Jones, Becky Ann Boyd, Mark Joiner, and Brigette Pujol, all of Alabama; Brian Goings of KS; Kimberly Cady and James Neil Goings of Texas.
Don will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
The family requests memorial donations be given to the ASPCA or any animal charity of choice.
