Berneva Mae Ostrom, born Berneva Mae Stafford on May 25, 1931 in Fargo North Dakota, passed away December 27, 2014 in Olympia, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents Nina and Lyman Stafford, her husband Dean O. Ostrom and three children, Robert E. Ostrom, Danny R. Ostrom and Marylyn L. (Ostrom) McDonald. She is survived by her son Richard D. Ostrom, daughter Lynda (Ostrom) Duval, eight grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
She is loved and remembered for her tremendous strength in adversity, love of family, nature and travel.
Throughout her life family gatherings, gardening, cooking and traveling brought her joy. After the loss of her husband in 1982 she learned how to drive, earned her GED, and retired from the office of Washington State Patrol. Her funniest stories and greatest memories came from spending time with her grandkids camping, taking day trips or just “goofing off”. She loved traveling the U.S. in her small motor home visiting family and multiple national parks. She flew to Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico, was a member of a local hiking group and volunteered at the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge.
In her later years, she enjoyed scenic drives and picnicking with Lynda and Richard, playing scrabble, bird watching and reminiscing.
With much love we say goodbye to our loving Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt and Friend.
