Walt, You will be sorely missed brother. You were first and foremost a soldiers SGM, always prioritizing you soldiers over the day to day nonsense that always seemed to come your way. I first met you in 1978, even then you were a mentor and a friend, someone who genuinely cared for the wellbeing of your troops. When we took our first PT test under your supervision, you called us over and, with pen in hand, asked us how we thought we would do You dutifully wrote our answers into the score cards and then we played flag football for an hour or so. Nice. You once notified me of a promotion by issuing me a counseling statement for being out of uniform. As the Co. SGM, you would often be seen mowing the company lawn so we could train without distraction. These are just some of the many great memories I have of you my friend. I have, and will continue, to sing your praises for many years to come. Be at peace and perfect rest. See you on the other side and save a beer for me.
