hughes1_0002Patrick Lee Hughes was born to Stanley and Virginia Hughes on November 15, 1965 in San Diego, CA. His father’s naval career took the family to various duty stations including California and Hawaii and eventually settling in Bremerton, WA where Patrick graduated from Olympic High School in 1983. He then went on to graduate from Eastern Washington University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in Radio-Television Production.

Upon graduation from college, Patrick headed to Los Angeles where he began his career working on television shows with Dick Clark, Super Dave Osborne, and various DIY shows. He had an interesting career that gave him the opportunity to travel and work in many aspects of his field, from being a stuntman to working as a production manager. He moved back to the Seattle area in the early 90’s and transitioned from television into the software industry working as a producer for such companies as Sierra On-line, Real Networks, and consulting for Microsoft. Prior to his move back to the Pacific Northwest, he spent some time working in Israel where he learned to scuba dive.

Patrick’s passion was sports. He loved all sports – BMX racing, soccer, and especially baseball. He started playing in Little League while living in San Diego and worked hard to become a valuable member of his high school and college baseball teams. He coached for the Bremerton American Legion when he was only 19, and was honored in a newspaper article titled “Boy Coach Wins Tournament.” He continued to referee throughout his life.

Patrick’s spirit left this earth on February 2, 2015 at the age of 49 due to an undiagnosed heart condition. He is survived by two daughters, Mikaela and Morgan Hughes, and their mother, Cynthia (Higgins) Thomas of Issaquah, WA; his parents, Stanley and Virginia (Jenny) Hughes of Lacey, WA; his brother and sister-in-law Eric and Janet (Ponther) Hughes, and their sons Connor and Logan of Puyallup, WA. He also leaves his beloved friend, Gail Kelley, who for many years was a huge part of Patrick and his daughters’ lives. Lastly, he leaves his faithful dog, Joey, who was a source of unconditional love and companionship.

Patrick was loved dearly and will be missed greatly. He was taken from us much too soon. He will be remembered for his kind, gentle spirit, his offbeat sense of humor, and his intense love for his daughters.
