Miriam Louise Madison July 25, 2016, at the age of 75, we marked the passing of Miriam Madison, a remarkable woman whose loving memory and unforgettable moments will comfort all those who knew and cherished her for years to come. Her lasting legacy is one of family, friends, public service, great humor, and, oh yes, her beloved Huskies! Miriam touched many lives and was as fun and interesting as they come. Born in Portland, OR, on March 7, 1941, to Elaine and Daniel Fong, Miriam shared the dinner table with her three brothers, Dale, Ken, and Jim. Miriam graduated from Tigard High School and then relocated to Seattle, Washington, where she studied at the University of Washington graduating with a Master’s Degree in social work and a lifelong allegiance to the Purple and Gold. While studying at UW Miriam met and married Jerome Esterly, leading to the birth of their son, Mike Esterly. Miriam and Jerome eventually divorced and Miriam relocated to Olympia. In 1971 Miriam married Roy Madison. Joining Roy in life brought Miriam four stepdaughters, Cindy, Sandy, Susan, and Terry, and two stepsons, Mark and Scott. Having seven children in her life gave Miriam the opportunity to love and enjoy sixteen grandchildren. She loved having her grandchildren visit, maybe because (as she would say) they eventually went home! Miriam put her education, knowledge, and skills in social work into practice during a long career with the Department of Social and Health Services, eventually retiring as an area supervisor. Miriam was also known for her love of sports, be it the Huskies, Seahawks, Mariners, Sonics (remember them?) and did we mention the HUSKIES? Miriam golfed, played bridge, gardened, and was always willing to share a handful of her favorite Cheetos. Above it all, Miriam was so in love with Roy. Roy passed in 2006, but together they shared a wonderful life and Miriam carried that love with her to her final days. A celebration of Miriam’s life will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 5930 Mullen Road SE in Lacey, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2016.
