Malvina “Mal” Burke Thompson was born in Marianna, Arkansas on June 27, 1924. She entered Heaven’s gates on May 14, 2016.
A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mal enjoyed every moment she had with her family. She was an excellent baker and loved baking chocolate pies, pound cake and cookies for family and friends. Mal was always the first person to lend a helping hand to anyone in the community. You would always find her with a smile on her face and a heart full of kindness and gratitude.
She had an unwavering faith in God and influenced so many with her gentle spirit. Mal was a member of Our Merciful Savior Episcopal Church in Kaufman, Texas. Over the years, she was very involved with the church and assisted with numerous events and provided administrative support to the church office. She was involved with Friends of the Library in both Kaufman and then later in Yelm, Washington. In recent years she attended Christ the King Episcopal Church in Yelm.
Mal was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, John Gibbs Thompson, Sr. She was also preceded by her daughter Rebecca “Bekki” Nobles and her five brothers, Cornelius C. Burke, James W. Burke, Robert W. Burke, John M. Burke and Samuel C. Burke. Mal is survived by her son John Gibbs Thompson, Jr. and wife Terri, and son George Cornelius Thompson. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Lisa Thompson Roossien and husband Dennis, Bexie Nobles and husband Curtis, Josh Thompson, Jeff Thompson and wife Laura, Russell Nobles and Megan Thompson. She had five great- grandchildren, Sean Roossien, Adam Roossien, Avery Roossien, Piper Thompson and Luke Thompson.
Her daughter-in-law and son, Terri and John G. Thompson lovingly cared for her the last 15 years of her life in Yelm, Washington. The family wishes to express to them their deepest gratitude.
Father David Fell will officiate a memorial service at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Yelm, on Sunday, May 22, at 3:00 p.m. A graveside service celebrating Malvina’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 25, at 10:30 am, at Kaufman Cemetery in Kaufman, Texas, officiated by the Rev. Dr. David Petrash.
