James Marion Enlow, 77, lost his battle with cancer on Monday, July 25, 2016 at St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born in Taylorville, IL on February 25, 1939 to Jesse & Opal (Huddleston) Enlow. He was the oldest of nine children; Sue, Sarah, Frieda, Shirley, Becky, Wes, Jesse and Sharon.
Survivors include his Wife, Eva (Baker) Enlow; his Daughter, Sandy and his two sons Bryan (Jeanne) and Jim (Janet); 7 grandchildren Sandi (Brandon), Mindy (Chris), Brenden (Haley), Michelle (Jay), Nicole, Jaedyn, & Jessilyn; 2 great-grandchildren, Isla & Jaxon, and one on the way, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Jim served in United States Air Force from 1956-1959, he met his beloved wife, Eva while stationed at McCord. They married on July 3, 1959 and settled in Yelm,WA. They were devoted to one another, and recently celebrated their 57 year wedding anniversary. He was a Supervisor at Fort Lewis and retired in 1993.
Jim had a passion for woodworking. He made wood projects for his family, birdhouses for his grandchildren and donated to the Yelm scholarship fund. He was an avid gardener and loved eating vegetables fresh off the vine. He had a large garden at his home for many years. He loved the view of Mt. Rainier from his home in Yelm and enjoyed gambling at the Red Wind Casino. He cooked his trademark SOS breakfast on Christmas morning, loved to sing country classics and loved to sing duets with his wife. He was every one of his grandchildren’s biggest fans. He always had Werther’s candies in his pockets. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, no one was a stranger. He was devoted to his mother & father in law, caring for them as they aged. His grandkids always knew he was the best source to get a Snickers bar. He loved the horse races and making trips to Reno. He never missed watching his favorite teams, the Mariners & Seahawks. He took great pride in watching his grandkids ‘play ball’ at their sporting events and being called “Grandpa” by all of the kids on the team. He never missed one of his kids’ or grandkids’ games or dance recitals. His happiest days were spent at home with his family laughing and reminiscing together.
