Harriet J. Wehnes

Harriet, 79, passed away April 18, 2021, at home in Tumwater, Washington, surrounded by her loving     family and friends. She was born in Kamiah, Idaho to Harold and Francis Knight. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1959. After high school, she went to Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho. She followed this with The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington and received her BA in Counseling. She received her master’s degree from St. Martin’s College.

In 1961, she married the love of her life, George Wehnes, in Lewiston, Idaho. Together, they raised three children – Randy, Melody, and Wendy.

Harriet had a few different jobs, but they all were in helping others. For nine years, she worked as Director of Women’s Ministry for the Olympia Union Gospel Mission. During this time, she also had her own private practice of Marriage and Family Counseling for over twelve years. She was a long-standing member of the Church of Nazarene, for over 45 years. For the last 15 years, she was a member of the Congregation of Lion of Judah.

Harriet’s family meant everything to her. She truly loved and enjoyed spending as much time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as possible. Whenever she smiled, it lit up her face from within and made everyone around her smile as well. She loved to paint, crochet, and sew. She loved flowers and was in her garden tending her plants as much as she could. She really enjoyed Messianic Dance as well.     Harriet was a very friendly person and made everyone around her feel comfortable with her warmth. She was very encouraging and patient. Her kindness and compassion for the poor and needy was well-known, and she was very loved for it.

Her love of Jesus Christ was deep and personal, and guided every facet of her life.  She was truly a     Proverbs 31:10-31 woman, who was admired and loved by all.

Harriet leaves behind the love of her life of 60 years – George Wehnes; her son Randy Wehnes of      Roseburg, Oregon; her two daughters Melody Morrison of Crescent City, California and Wendy Pham of Olympia, Washington; her brother Monte Knight of Lewiston, Idaho; sister Darlene Clark of Grangeville, Idaho and Maxine Hatley of Pullman, Washington; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Meeting her at Heaven’s Gate were parents, relatives and friends who have gone on before.

Even though her candle has been blown out, her light still shines upon her family through the glow of her spirit. She will be truly missed.
