Dixie Colleen Collins (75) 11/19/1941 – 03/29/2017

Dixie went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on 03/29/2017. She is now dancing and singing with the Angels.  She passed away at Providence Mother Joseph Care Center where she was cared for and loved. She was born in Des Moines, IA to James and Vera Collins, who preceded her in death.  Also preceding her in death was her stepfather Quentin Buck.

She leaves behind a brother Gary Collins (Hazel), and 2 sisters Shirley Kearse (Mike), and Vicki Edwardson.  She also leaves behind her nephew Mark Collins and several other nephews and nieces and several great nephews and nieces. Also left behind are Mart and Tammy Francis, Gail Garrard, Sam Gizinski, Judy Sharp and many other friends and members of her church family.

Dixie grew up in IA, CA, and MO.  She graduated from Rolla High School in 1959.  In 1969 She received a degree in modern dance from Yale. In 1970 she traveled thru Great Britain. In 1971 she traveled thru Mexico and Guatemala. In 1972 she took courses at New Haven University. in 1973 she traveled through England and Western Europe. In 1976 she graduated from University of MO at Columbia with a BA in Sociology/Anthropology.  She had an orange belt in Korean karate.  She graduated from St. Martin University in 1986 with a masters degree in social work.

She enjoyed reading, designing and making her own clothes, and she was an artist concentrating in oils and pastels.  She enjoyed teaching and taught Pioneer Girls at City Life Church from 1981 – 1986.

She loved animals and was especially interested in Koko the Gorilla.

There will be a Celebration of her life on Saturday May 6th at 2 pm at City Life Church, 4205 Lacey Blvd. SE, Lacey, WA 98503.

Memorials may be sent to City Life Church or to an animal shelter.
