Carolyn June Shuford was born December 2nd 1946 in Turlock California to Calvin Weeks Collier and Edna Elizabeth Collier. Carolyn grew up in the Central Valley of California. She spent her young adult years raising children, German Shepherds, horses and cattle on a ranch just outside of Bakersfield. She spent the 1970s and 1980s at swim meets and 4-H meetings with her kids. Carolyn is remembered by friends and family as joyful and devoted. She was enormously proud of her three children and grandchildren.
Before multiple sclerosis began to take its toll, Carolyn liked to sketch and was very creative. She also proudly worked for the Kern County Sheriff’s department as a clerk, reserve sheriff’s deputy and park ranger.
Carolyn later lived in Oklahoma, Florida as well as San Luis Obispo and Bakersfield California. In 2011 Carolyn moved to Washington State and spent many happy years with friends and family. Despite her mobility issues Carolyn was determined to keep exercising and stayed very active with friends in her senior community andhad a lot of great shopping trips with her friend and caregiver Angie.
As time went on Carolyn’s health declined and she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She met this diagnosis with great courage and acceptance. Her last few months were spent at Providence Mother Josephs Care Center in Olympia WA. Carolyn was cared for by amazing nurses and other staff members at Mother Josephs and felt very safe and loved. She spent her last days with her daughter and son and their spouses as well as her favorite nurses in the world!
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents Calvin and Edna Collier and brothers, Calvin Jr and William Collier. She is survived by her sister Ann Suhl, son Daniel Shuford, daughter in law Kellie Shuford and daughters Deanna Shuford and Dawn Shuford-Pavlich and son in law Mike Pavlich, granddaughters Scotlynn, Brooke, Gillian, Emily, Rachel and Rowan and grandson Aidan as well as her great grandson Liam Jordan. Carolyn will be missed by us all!
