Bonita Jane “BJ” Beauchene, 93, died July 15, 2017 with her granddaughter by her side in Olympia, WA. A requiem mass will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Saint Edward Catholic Church in Shelton, Washington with burial by her husband’s side in the Hartstine Island Cemetery. BJ was born in Tacoma, Washington on April 13, 1924 to Arnold and Martha Sandvig.
BJ graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma, WA. She joined the United States Navy shortly after the start of World War II. While in the Navy, BJ met the love of her life, Joseph Beauchene. They were married in Boston, Massachusetts in 1945. They were married for 56 years until Joseph passed away.
BJ was an active member of the Hartstine Island Community Club and Hartstine Island Womens Club. She conceived the Children’ Carnival, and many other activities. Everyone knew her as a “mover and shaker.” She was known by all and honored as Citizen of the Year.
BJ was an active member of St. Edward Catholic Church. Her interests included her family, gardening, reading, crafts, decorating for the holidays, and loving her wonderful doggie, Nicky.
BJ is survived by her son Raymond of Olympia, WA, her daughter Sharon Hedeen of Lake City, WA, grandson Raymond Jr. and his spouse Shaley of Elma, WA; granddaughter Courtney and her spouse Omar of Seattle, WA, and grandson Kevin Hedeen of Lake City, WA. BJ’s doggie Nicky is living with the Hedeens.
