Bettie Alexander, a long time resident of Yelm, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, March 12, 2015. She was born April 14, 1929 in Pampa, TX to Fred Aden and Twillie Jewell Adams. She spent her childhood in Anaheim, CA and moved with her family to Portland, OR in the 40’s. She then moved to Lander WY to finish high school and back to Portland, OR.
On July 12, 1948, Bettie married Howard James Alexander. They lived in Portland, OR until moving to Yelm, WA in January 1955, where she lived in the same house for 60 years. Bettie worked as a LPN at Summer Shores and enjoyed bowling, volunteering with the Cub Scouts, Campfire and the Yelm School District for all of her children then her grandchildren. She volunteered at St. Columban Catholic Church since joining in 1961. Bettie’s favorite thing was going to the beach, especially in Hawaii.
Bettie was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; parents Fred and Jewell, her brother Jimmy, daughter Karann, and son-in-law Ken. She is survived by her sons Howard, Jr. and Frank, daughters Pam and Cindy, daughter-in-law Krystal, sons-in-law Bill and Mike, nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Columban Catholic Church, 506 1st Street S, Yelm. WA 98597 on Friday, March 27, 2015: Viewing 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; Holy Rosary 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.; Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m., a reception will follow at the church.
