Frances Joanne Wilk passed away October 11, 2019 in her home of 54 years on Long Lake, Olympia Washington. Following a combined total of 54 days in the Panorama Rehab facility and St. Peter’s Hospital she returned home.
This was Joanne’s desire and concurred by her husband, sons, and all others concerned. Round the clock care was provided by Brightstar care and support provided by Hospice.
Family and friends were able to visit. Joanne was virtually pain free during these last 18 days. She listened to music, looked at pictures and enjoyed the view including the birds at the feeder.
Joanne was born in Tacoma, Washington on September 16, 1931. She traveled to Japan with her family where she graduated from Osaka Army High School with Honors. Her other claim to fame was being a cheerleader.
Joanne married Charles Wilk in December 1958. She returned to school and graduated from Evergreen State College with a BA Degree in 1982.
Joanne went to work as a Legislative Assistant for the State of Washington. First in the House and then in the Senate.
She loved children, her house and shopping for antiques and collectibles. She was a very generous person particularly with family, friends and social causes.
Joanne was a long time member of the league of Women voters serving over 50 years in various capacities. The league honored her on their site November 1, 2019.
Joanne is survived by her husband and two sons. Charles JR of Portland Oregon, Benjamin of Seattle Washington, and a sister Constance Meyers from Federal Way.
Joanne has 10 grandchildren all of which she was very proud. Services will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery in Lacey, Washington. Commencing at 11AM Saturday November 9th 2019. A reception will be held at Joanne and Charley’s Home immediately following.
