John Hugh McCormick,84, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018, at home with his loving wife of 24 years, Ruthann, by his side. John was born on August 27, 1933, in the front bedroom of the family home on McCormick Street NE in Olympia, WA to Thomas Everett McCormick and Margaret Louise Whidden McCormick. After graduation from Olympia High School in 1952, he served in the U.S Navy for two years. he was stationed in Yokuska, Japan and drove ammunition trucks. Following his discharge, he attended Centralia Community College fora period of time. He then attended St. Martin’s College and graduated with a major in Industrial Relations and minors in Psychology and Philosophy. John then worked a short time for the State of Washington. He then went to work for the Olympia Brewing Company where he retired after 34 years. He enjoyed watching football, soccer, going hunting, and reading. John is survived by his daughter and son; Cheryl Lynn Christensen, her husband Scott, and two granddaughters Lynn (and great grandson Christian) and Lauren of Olympia,WA; And Jeff McCormick of Tumwater, WA. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Cat O’Mally, and her children Alice and Josh of Lacey, WA; His ex-wife, Carol (Meyer) McCormick, of Tumwater, WA and his sister, Patricia Thomas of Everett, WA. John’s oldest son, Brian McCormick, preceded him in death in November 2014 as well as John’s older brother, Thomas E. McCormick, Spring Branch, TX on December 22, 2006. A special thank you to the Providence SoundHomeCare Hospice for all their care and support. In lieu of a celebration of life, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. to honor his wishes, his ashes will be scattered at his favorite hunting spot.
