SGM (Ret) Walter M. Hetzler, 78, passed in his home in Lacey, Washington on 2 June 2017 after a long struggle with cancer. Walter was born to Bernice and Morris Hetzler and raised in Oak Ridge, Tennessee before entering the Marine Corps in 1954 and then the U.S. Army in 1962. He completed training for Special Forces and became a Medic subsequently serving in Germany, Okinawa, Ft Bragg, and Ft Lewis Washington retiring in 1993 after 36 years of service. During that time Walter served 36 months in Viet Nam during two separate tours receiving the Silver Star and Purple Heart in combat. After retirement he drove for North Thurston School District, was the president of his home owners association, and taught for the military. Walter is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lynda; brother, Morris; and children, Michael, Lesley, Lonnie, Noemi; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at the North Fort Chapel, Bldg 11621, Ft Lewis, Washington at 1 p.m. on the 21st of July. In lieu of flowers please submit donations to OASISGrp.org. |
