Olympia, WA – William N. (Nick) Ewing Sr., 71, of Olympia, Washington, passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital, Olympia, Thurston, WA on August 30, 2016, following a long battle with Cancer. Nick was born in Traverse City, Grand Traverse, Michigan, the son of Robert Archie and Beatrice Rae Huellmantel Ewing. His first wife, Shirley Ann Rossell Ewing passed away in 2015. They had two children, William N. (Will) Ewing Jr. and Christine Rae Ewing. On November 3, 1988, he married Donna May Sayward in Las Vegas, Clark, Nevada. He added two step children to his family: Curtis Eugene Hegel and Corey Ann Hegel Crawford (Mills), as well as four grandchildren. His grandkids knew him as “Papa Nicky” and adored him. The traveling bug was in Nick’s blood – he loved the many places he traveled to, but his heart remained in Michigan. He made many trips back to his roots, to visit his children and his brother, Robert Allen (Bob) Ewing. Nick was involved in Boy Scouts of America, was a volunteer firefighter in Copmish, MI, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles # 21, Olympia, WA. In the last few years, he took care of feral cats and was able to find home for numerous kittens. Nick was predeceased by: his father, Archie in 1997, and his mother, Beatrice in 1986. Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Donna Ewing of Olympia, WA; one son, William N. (Will) Ewing Jr of Michigan; one daughter Christine Rae Ewing of Michigan, son Curtis Eugene Hegel, his wife, Jennifer and their two children, Sarah Marie Hegel and Matthew Thomas Hegel (of Michigan); daughter, Corey Ann Hegel Crawford (Mills), her husband, David Alan Mills, two children, Briana Leigh Crawford (Russell) Hamilton, and Jessica Nikol Mae Mills of Washington, brother Robert Ewing (Jean) of Michigan. The family would like to thank Dr. Mim Kang and staff from Vista Oncology for their care and support.
