Daniel F. Hoeschen was born March 30, 1935 in Aberdeen, WA and passed away peacefully at Puget Sound Healthcare in Olympia, WA on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the age of 81, after a five year struggle with Alzheimer’s. Dan served in the Army and was stationed in Germany where his sweetheart, Marlene Thielen, joined him and married in 1955. After returning to the states he was a Manager at the Olympia Sears for 25 years and later owned Uncle Dan’s Country Store on Yelm Highway for 10 years, which became a local favorite convenience store, gas station, restaurant, and antique shop that also offered welding and many other services, including the very first Spooner Farm Berries. While raising his family, and long after they had grown, Dan and Marlene were always gracious hosts for holidays, birthdays, friends and family gatherings. Dan loved hunting, fishing, music and square dancing and enjoyed his retirement years living in Montana and Alaska. He and his wife, Marlene, volunteered in Wrangle Alaska for the Parks Department as Camp Ground Hosts. His hospitable nature was enjoyed by many. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marlene; and six children, Dan, Phil, (Judy), Sue Spooner, (Tim), Marty, (Kim), Jeff, Chuck, (Michelle); 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Aurelia; and brother, Kenneth. He is preceded in death by daughter, Margaret Kelly. We will miss his practical jokes and kidding ways. Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lacey on Monday, August 29 at 9:00 a.m. Services provided by Woodlawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity. We Love You, Dad. |
