Gary S. Farrior, of Lacey, WA, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 27th 2014.
On April 13, 1953, Gary was born in Rosehill, North Carolina.
At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Army, joining the
Infantry, and serving for 24 years. On his first assignment to Germany, he
met the love of his life, Ingrid, whom he married and was with for over 42
years. Together they lived, traveled, and worked across Europe and the
US, raising four wonderful children along the way. Then, at the end of his
military career, Gary retired in Washington State in 1994, not far from
where he was first married, and began the next chapter in his life:
nearly two decades of public service with the federal and state government
before medically retiring in 2012.
Gary was an avid reader, a fan of classic westerns and detective dramas,
catching up with his children and grandchildren, and most of all, he had a
big heart and nothing brought him more joy and happiness than being
able to lend a hand and help family, friends, coworkers, and even
strangers.
Gary is survived by his mother; Elizabeth Flowers of Detroit; his wife,
Ingrid; his four children; Marc, Denise, Julian (Nicole), and
Sean (Jessica); and three granddaughters, with one more on the way.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the
daughter of one of Gary’s closest friends, who was recently diagnosed
with cancer.
Donations can be made at: http://www.gofundme.com/gir47C
and we ask that in the comments section, in addition to any comments
you would like to leave, that you indicate the donation is made in the
memory of Gary S. Farrior.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at South Sound Manor, 455 North Street SE, Tumwater, WA 98501 on Saturday, December 6th from 10a-12p in the McElroy Room
