Autumn Dawn Cadwell Martin, age 92, a longtime resident of Thurston County, Washington, died Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. She was known to her immediate family as “Dawn-Dawn”. Dawn was born in Solvay, New York on October 8, 1921 to Stanley Wilford Cadwell and Myrtle Jean Hutton. Dawn had one older brother, Russell Robert Cadwell. She graduated from Solvay High School on June 24, 1939. In 1942, on a trip to New York City with some of her girlfriends, Dawn whistled at a young man in an Air Force uniform. This young man was to become Dawn’s future husband. Dawn was an amateur ice skater in her late teens and early twenties. She was offered to skate with the Ice Capades but chose to marry and start a family. Dawn married Jense Peter Fredericks, Sr. on August 26, 1944 in Solvay, New York. Dawn and Jense had six children together. The family lived in several different places during Jense’s military career including Tennessee, New Jersey, Minnesota, Washington and California. When Jense retired from the military in1961 the family made their home in Jense’s home state of Wisconsin before returning to Washington State. Jense passed away on September 16, 1968 in logging accident. In 1969 Dawn was introduced to Richard (Dick) Martin, through Dawn’s son, Michael and Dick’s daughter, Linda. They soon became inseparable and married on November 16, 1969. Once Dick retired from Weyerhaeuser they spent their time traveling overseas to places like Scotland and Ireland. While on vacation in Ireland she kissed the Blarney Stone. She loved canoeing, kayaking, camping beach coming and spending time with family and friends. They belonged to the Polar Bear Canoe Club for many years. Dawn was an avid member at Faith Lutheran Church in Lacey, Washington. She is survived by her husband, Richard Martin; two daughters, Geraldine Sue Bowes (Harold) of Lacey, Washington and Robin Lee Tobin of Olympia, Washington; four sons, Jense Peter Fredericks, Jr. (Kathy) of Bozeman, Montana; Michael Stanley Fredericks (Linda) of Lacey, Washington; Mark Stephen Fredericks (Corrine) of Lacey, Washington and Tim Russell Fredericks (Marla) of Gig Harbor, Washington; step-son William Martin (Connie); 19 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren. Dawn was preceded in death by her first husband, Jense Peter Fredericks, Sr.; Bryan Scott Fredericks, grandson; Stanley Wilford Cadwell, father; Mrytle Jean Cadwell, mother; Russell Robert Cadwell, brother; Randy Lee Tobin, son-in-law and Cheryl Waller Fredericks, daughter-in -law. A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church at 10:00 am on September 9, 2014 located at 7075 Pacific Avenue SE in Lacey, WA 98503 with Pastor Matt Henry officiating. A gathering will be held immediately following. A graveside service to follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Tumwater. Pallbearers will be six of Dawn’s grandsons; Harold Bowes, Jr. Eric Fredericks, Jense C. Fredericks, Justin Fredericks, James Tobin and Philip Cheek. Honorary pallbearers are Tim Fredericks, Jr., David Fredericks, Mathew Fredericks, Jody Tobin, Vernon Tobin, Roger Clark and Cody Clark. Funeral arrangements are being made at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery. |
