SGM (R) Marcel B. Dumont Marcel was born in Lewiston, Maine on April 27, 1931 and passed away on May 29, 2015 at the age of 84. He found the love of his life, Ruth Couture at 21. They married in 1952 and shared 62 years together and had 5 children, 3 daughters and 2 sons. Marcel proudly served his country In the National Guard and United States Army. He began his military service in 1958 in the Guard and transitioned into the regular Army in 1961. He was stationed throughout the United States and Europe, and completed 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. He attained the rank of Sergeant Major before he retired with 24 years of service in 1985. He received numerous awards to include 2 Bronze Stars, 2 Meritorious Service Medals , 3 Air Medals, the Combat Infantryman Badge; 3 Vietnam Service Medals and additional recognitions. After retirement, Marcel worked at the State Legislature for 7 years in various capacities. He was an avid fly fisherman and loved spending time on the lake fishing with family and friends. He belonged to the South Sound Fly Fishers Club and Puget Sound Fly Fishers Club. He enjoyed participating in programs to protect fish habitats. He and Ruth were members of Lacey’s Sacred Heart Parish for 37 years. Marcel never met a stranger and he will be remembered for his famous stories. Marcel was predeceased by his parents Oneil and Jeanne Dumont and his sister Lorraine Cote. He is survived by his wife Ruth, his five children, Claire Blanchard (Gary) of Hinesville, GA; Diane Smith (Dennis) of Fayetteville, NC; Tina Barletta (Dennis) of Clayton, NC; Patrick Dumont (Tonya) of Dayton, OH & Michael Dumont (Jodi) of Tacoma, WA. Marcel and Ruth have 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 2 at 9:00 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lacey, with a Reception to follow. Donations can be made in honor of Marcel B. Dumont to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Contributions will support the Emergency Outreach & Food Pantry Programs. |
