Janice Laurene Boren Suver, age 80, of Yelm, Washington passed away on July 29th, 2021. She joins her beloved daughter Susan in Heaven, along with her parents, Leonard and Geneva, her sisters Evelyn and Pat, and brother Bill. She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 62 years, Richard A. “Pete” Suver, her sons Pete (wife Cindy), Pat (wife Lisa), and Andy (wife Sheiska), 8 grandchildren, and siblings Jim, Tom, John, Helen, Dave, and Caroline. Born in Olympia, Janice grew up with 9 siblings in a Catholic household and graduated from the all-girls St. Leo’s High School in Tacoma. She met her husband Pete and together they raised four smart and funny children of whom they were very proud. Janice spent much of her adult life in Ashford, Washington, running Suver’s General Store, the last glimpse of civilization for many adventurers heading to Mount Rainier. She had fascinating stories to tell of her encounters with these folks, and her steady hand as a manager and presence behind the counter won the store loyal regulars. Though the work was often back-breaking, nothing could diminish her steely backbone, and she handled rowdy kids and robberies alike with calm and grace. Among the family, Janice was known for her incredible pies. She delighted in hearing her children’s stories, and the rich, infectious sound of her laughter that was always present at gatherings earned her the nickname “Laughing Grandma” from a young granddaughter. She was stoic and uncomplaining in the face of the chronic pain which eventually limited her mobility. In her last few years Janice spent much of her time on her tablet, keeping up with family all around the country and always chiming in with an encouraging comment or quick quip. Janice’s final days were spent in the company of constant visitors and exceptional caregivers, reminiscing over fond memories and hearing her loved ones’ plans for the future. The family would like to express their gratitude to Jenny Martin and her staff for the wonderful care Janice received. A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Columban Catholic Church in Yelm on Tuesday, August 10th with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Knights of Columbus.
