June 4, 1931 – May 20, 2014

Oletha McIntyre, age 82, passed away peacefully, on May 20, 2014 at home with her daughter in Yelm, WA.

Oletha Mae Milton Williams McIntyre was born on June 4, 1931 in New Orleans, LA to Ola Mae Merritt and Bradley Charles Williams. She was educated in the New Orleans Public School system, graduating in the Class of 1947 from McDonogh 35 Sr. High, where she had loving, lifelong friends.

She went on to acquire an Associates Degree in Medical Technology after moving to Chicago, IL in the early 1950’s. She married Joseph L. Thomas and had a son and a daughter, Bradley and Gicanda Thomas. She worked for 16 years at Chicago’s Billings Lying-In Hospital.

In 1968, she moved back to New Orleans and married Michael Lawrence McIntyre Jr.. She worked at Charity hospital at New Orleans until her retirement, where she made many more loved, trusted and lifelong friends. She was a lifelong member of the First Shiloh Baptist Church and often gave to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

Due to the catastrophe that was hurricane katrina, she finally settled in Yelm, WA, where she lived until her passing but always remembered her home that was New Orleans.

To all her friends and family: She has always carried you in her heart here and in heaven.

Oletha was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband Michael Lawrence, brothers Charles Milton and Lynwood Shanklin, cousins Odessa, Amelia, and Ernest Meyers Sr.. She leaves to mourn her son and daughter Bradley and Gicanda Thomas, daughter-in-law Ruby Thomas, her brother Archie K. Milton and family, Beverlyn Turner-Walker, David Stevenson and a host of other relatives and friends.

Woodlawn Funeral Home in Lacey, WA is taking care of the arrangements.
