Miles Wayne Derda, 12-years-old, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 14th surrounded by his family. Miles came into this world on July 27, 2007, in Olympia Washington, to the proud parents of Michael and Susan (Hathaway) Derda. During his short life, he was a student of Komachin Middle School, where many knew and loved him. He had an amazing imagination. Miles’ teachers said that he was a budding writer.

Miles was a rambunctious kid. He loved playing football but didn’t like watching it. He also loved wrestling and playing basketball. Miles enjoyed the outdoors and spent a lot of time camping, swimming and snow sledding. He enjoyed playing Xbox; his favorite video games were Forza Horizon4 and Borderlands. He REALLY loved cooking and always wanted to try new recipes. One of his absolute favorite things was chocolate. Miles’ favorite tv shows were Goldrush, The Flash, MacGyver and Magnum PI.

Miles had a kind soul. He was the kid who would befriend the kids who didn’t have many friends or the new kid in school. He was very fun-loving and had the biggest, warmest heart. He was always ready with a hug for anyone who needed it. Miles loved spending time with his siblings and friends. He always looked forward to traveling to visit family in Indiana.

Miles is survived by his loving parents Michael and Susan Derda, brothers Christian and Isaiah, sisters Jessica and Isabell, and grandparents Mary Ann and Russ Hockett, Linda and Ernie Barnaby, and Steve Kollar.

Awaiting him in Heaven are grandparents Reynold and Dorothy Derda, and Wayne Hathaway.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to TCYFL (Thurston County Youth Football League), Saint Michael Parish, or Raise for Rowyn.
