A graveside service is planned for 12pm Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the Yelm Cemetery (11540 Cemetery Road SE, Yelm WA 98597). A memorial service and reception are scheduled for 2pm at the Cowboy Baptist Church (9205 South 336th Street, Roy WA 98580, or P O Box 624, Rainier WA 98576).

Mavis May Hopkins was born March 19, 1944 in Seattle as the first child of Joseph Francis and Sigrun May Murrey. She passed from this life to her new life December 12, 2019 in Yelm, Washington following an extended illness. She graduated from Blaine, Washington High School and began work as a bank teller. She and Larry were married June 8, 1965 and they moved to the rural area south of Yelm where she took up raising a family, gardening, and serving the church. She was an avid reader.

She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as an adult and began serving Him readily in Bible study, teaching Sunday school, and serving as church treasurer. She adored her children and grandchildren, and she relished family occasions.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; brother Joseph Jr.; an infant daughter Cindy May; brothers-in-law Harold Channel, Bill Hopkins, and Ron Hopkins; niece Christy Channel; and an infant grandchild Liam Ferlet.

Mavis is survived by her husband of fifty years, Larry Eugene Hopkins; sons Larry (Sharnell) in Vancouver WA, Wade in Edmond OK, and Brett in Yelm WA; and daughter Disa (Jimmy) Ferlet in Lacey WA; sister Patricia Channel in Vancouver WA; nephew Steven Channel in Vancouver WA; nieces Linda Channel in Vancouver WA, Laura (Marvin) Bjorne in Polson MT, Hannah (Jacob) Hirning in McKenna WA, and numerous nephews and nieces including Reginald and Laura Hopkins both of the Seattle area. In addition, she is survived by brothers-in-law Frank (Judy) Hopkins, Robert Hopkins, Jim (Caren) Hopkins, Richard (Jean) Hopkins, Greg (Mona) Hopkins and Bonnie Hopkins. She is succeeded by eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and long-time friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to the Cowboy Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
