rogers_mariawebMaria Antonia Rogers., 72, Olympia, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia. Maria was born in Mayaguez Puerto Rico on February 6th 1944.

Maria told childhood stories of growing up in Puerto Rico tending to the chickens for her family and neighbors. Walking miles to and from school and work daily. She had fond memories of her family and friends there.

Maria met the love of her life at age 21 while she was living in Puerto Rico – a so called “Gringo” swept her off her feet! Maria and John were side by side through out there adventures.  Johns work abroad took them too many Countries – Turkey where they lived for 1 year, Korea where they lived for 3 years and Barcelona Egypt 1 year.  They saw the sights from Camel riding to every castle and temple there was.

Maria and John had a very busy life, camping at their favorite campground, card night, happy hour, fishing, and keeping up with friends.

Maria had many talents; Seamstress, expert gardener, crafter, organizer, cook, builder, caregiver and friend to all.

Maria earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico

Maria had various jobs relating to care giving and directing activities. She worked at the Puerto Rico Corp for Rural Development as a social worker. Also the Federal Senior Aides Employment Program in Fayetteville North Carolina. She was a caregiver and activity director in Olympia at Roo-Lan Health Care and Panorama City Convalescent Center.

Maria had many family members; Her Mother Maria Esther Fernandez Carlos (deceased), her father Mariano Fernandez Cebollero (Deceased), Sister Maria Socorro Fernandez, sister Maria Esther Fernandes, sister Rosaura Camacho (deceased), brother Oscar Fernandez, brother Wilfredo Fernandez, brother Francisco Fernandez, brother Reinado Camacho (deceased) bother Jose Del Carmen Camacho (deceased) brother Efrain Camacho (deceased) brother Dagoberto Camacho, brother Oscar Camacho, brother Fundador Camacho, Aunts and Uncles and many Nieces and Nephews.

Maria was a joy to know to all that met her. She changed so many lives by her kind heart and willingness to help with any task large or small.  Our hearts will be sad, but please know she loved us all equally even if she knew you an hour or a lifetime.

“There are no strangers, only friends I haven’t met yet!”
