Joan Audrey Paulsen (July 6, 1929 – January 3, 2017)

Born July 6,1929, in Sheridan, Wyoming to Jess Thomas and Marjorie (Peggy) Newcomer Thomas.
She was married to Bruce (Bud) Paulsen on April 3, 1948 who preceded her in death. He was her soul mate. They enjoyed their dancing, traveling and just being together.

She loved to dance anytime anywhere but especially with the love of her life and husband Bud, they were married just short of 50 years.

She is survived by brother, Larry Thomas and by her daughters, Vickie Sjoblom (Randy), Sharon Ray, and Denise Paulsen (Bonnie), her 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.

A longtime resident of Lacey, she and Bud owned Southgate Builders Supply in Tumwater for 15 years. They lived on Hicks Lake in Lacey for many years and loved hosting summer picnics, parties and weddings. She spent many hours with her grandchildren on the lake assisting them with fishing and swimming. She and Bud traveled the US in their motor home. They kept busy with their craft business, The Country Touch and participated in many craft shows.

For many years, Joan and Bud enjoyed their cabin in Westport which they spent many hours building. Their grandchildren were thrilled when they were invited to join them at the cabin. She enjoyed going out to eat with friends. She never seemed to run out of energy. One of her greatest joys was spending time with the grandchildren with sleep overs and cooking things in the kitchen.

She resided the last 3 years at the Hampton Alzheimer’s Care Center. Donations in memory of Joan Paulsen can be made to:
