Janet Joan (Krause) Schwartz, 84, died July 23, 2018 with her daughters by her side in Olympia, WA. She was born June 13, 1934 in Milwaukee, WI to Albert and Ruth (Kasten) Krause. Janet married Richard (Dick) Norman Schwartz, who she met at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, in 1955. She studied art and later graduated from Stockton State College in New Jersey. In their 60 years of marriage, while Janet pursued her art and raised their three children, Dick’s job as a college administrator took them several places including West Lake, OH, Linwood, NJ, Birmingham, MI, Olympia, WA, and Ocean, NJ. They retired in Harlingen, TX. When Dick passed in 2016, Janet moved back to Olympia, WA to be close to her daughter Martha. Janet was an avid entertainer who loved the opera, Broadway shows, art museums, the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle, cooking and the ballet. She read extensively and was the consummate conversationalist. She created beautiful art work that fills her children’s homes and threw glorious holiday parties. She volunteered her time to support at risk children. She adored her grandchildren and step grandchilren and taught them to love the arts, good food and international travel.
She is survived by her son Donald Richard Schwartz (Ann Arbor, MI), his wife Ann Grossbart Schwartz and their children Juliann Marie Schwartz (Chicago, IL) and Carleigh Caitlin Schwartz (Arlington, VA); her daughter Martha Marie Brenna (Olympia, WA), Martha’s husband David Brenna, Martha’s daughter Hannah Victoria Schomann Petertil (Brooklyn, NY), Martha’s stepsons Andrew Nicholos Brenna (Olympia, WA) and Matthew Clarke Brenna (Alaska); her daughter Jennifer Joan Radecke (Odessa, DE), Jennifer’s husband Ken Radecke, Jennifer’s son Max Morris Levenberg (Landenberg, PA) and Jennifer’s stepchildren Matthew Kenneth (DE), Samantha Marie (DE), Ariel Antoinette (DE); and her brother Jon Krause (WI). She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Norman Schwartz.
