Memorial services will be held at 1pm on Saturday October 20th at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 5930 Mullen Rd SE Lacey, WA. A reception will follow at the funeral home and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Dean’s life. Condolences may be sent to the family at PO Box 382, Olympia, WA. 98507.

Dean Smith passed away peacefully at his home in Tenino, Washington on October 13, 2018 surrounded by his family. He fought a courageous battle with esophageal cancer and is now resting at the side of his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Son of Carley and Lillian Smith, he was born on January 16, 1944 in Woodbine, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his son Richard Dean Smith. Dean is survived by his wife of 54 years Dorothy Smith, son Randy Smith (Sheryl) and daughter Lisa Stoffers (Mark), brother; Ron Smith (Jodi), sisters; Wanda Myrick (Mickey), Jean “Gredda” Nead (Ron), Linda Johnson, Loretta West (Jim), and Teresa May. He also had 3 grandchildren, Jonathan, Kiana and Camron Smith and 3 step grandchildren, Kasey, Jesse and Jeremy McGrew. Dean lived in the Omaha, NE area for 36 years where he owned and operated D & D Steel Erectors. He relocated to Olympia, WA in 1980 where he was a member of Steamfitters/Pipefitters Local 26 and worked on various projects around WA. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed flying, racing, golfing, archery and scuba diving. He was an avid sportsman and thoroughly enjoyed boating, hunting and fishing. After retirement he became a master carpenter and created many beautiful projects for family and friends. He loved his family dearly and will always be remembered for his sharp wit, smile, devoted friendship and fierce love for God and he will remain in our hearts forever.
