Martin (Marty) Jeffrey Fuller was fifth of nine children born to James W. and Charlotte Fuller on May 22, 1952. Marty grew up on 8th street on the Eastside of Olympia which was also known as “little Vatican” due to the fact that the neighborhood families were mostly Catholic and the Catholic Church was very close by! He attended St. Michaels Grade School, Washington Jr. High and Olympia High School. He loved baseball and many games were played in the front yard with the neighborhood kids much to the chagrin of our Dad. Who knows how many times the front window was broken due to a wayward baseball!
Marty worked on a crab boat in Alaska and spent many years living and working in Palm Springs, California. He favored living in hot weather compared to the cold climate of Alaska!
Being a true Fuller, Marty loved his chocolate and all things sweet which he frequently requested from family and friends. Marty was well known for his sense of humor and teasing. He loved to tell ghost stories to his son and his nieces and nephews which would scare them to death but then they would beg him to tell them just one more!
Marty was an avid sports fan. He was a staunch supporter of the San Francisco 49ers, the New York Jets, and the Boston Bruins. He also loved playing tennis but hated to lose. Many games ended with him throwing rocks at and chasing his younger brother Tom home from the tennis court because he lost the match. Marty’s passion was playing the harmonica and listening to his tunes could sometimes bring tears to your eyes. He enjoyed crabbing and riding his bike and he loved being a dad to his “sonny” and he maintained many long and lasting friendships. He loved a good poker game with friends especially if he was winning!
Marty is survived by his son James Irish, sisters, Marye Jorgensen (Howard), Elizabeth Bergh (Bill), Nancy Merzoian (Joe), Bridget Fuller and brothers, Joe Fuller (Linda Jo) and Tom Fuller. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David and James.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 7th starting at 2PM at Columbian Hall, 6794 Martin Way E., Lacey, Washington. If you have questions contact Bridget at 360-456-0931.
