Lois May Seymour was born in Haxtun, CO to Edwin Luther and Geneva May Ewing on October 26, 1925, and died in Lacey, WA on March 18, 2016. She grew up and attended school until 9th grade in Haxtun, and attended her 10th and 11th grade years in Dalton, NE. Before her senior year in high school, her father took a job for the Southern Pacific Railroad in Cottage Grove, OR, where she graduated high school. After graduation, Lois went to work for Western Union as a teletype operator. In 1943, she was selected by Western Union to attend the United Nations conference in San Francisco to assist in handling telegraph business, which was expected to be the largest volume in the history of the company. Lois later moved to Olympia, WA to continue her work at the Western Union office there, not knowing that this would be the place she would meet the love of her life, Ellis Seymour. While at Skateland with some of her girlfriends, Lois met and fell in love with Ellis, and they were married March 14, 1947. They settled and raised their family in the Olympia area and had three sons, Douglas, Dennis, and Dean. Lois worked for the State of WA Department of Motor Vehicles, working closely with law enforcement statewide for 25 years, until she retired in 1993.

Lois enjoyed spur of the moment outings and trips with Ellis. They loved driving to the beach together at any time of the day, no matter the weather, even if it was too rainy and windy to get out of the car, for they simply enjoyed each other’s company. They frequented local restaurants and coffee shops often, and it wasn’t out of the ordinary to find them cozied up in a booth enjoying a piece of pie and cup of coffee together as late as midnight, any night of the week. Lois always looked her best, and spent countless hours at makeup counters and department stores in the mall while Ellis patiently waited for her on a nearby bench. She had a deep love and devotion for her family, especially her grandchildren, and stopped at nothing to make them feel special or to help them with whatever they needed. She kept a warm and inviting home, with cupboards stocked and doors always unlocked in case family stopped by for a visit. She enjoyed hosting loud and jubilant family dinners, never resting until everyone was happy and fed. Whether it was cheering on her grandsons at baseball games or playing baseball in her living room with her three granddaughters, she was always present, and always giving of her time, concern, and love. Her presence in the lives of her family will always be greatly missed.

Lois is preceded in death by her husband Ellis Seymour, her brother Edwin Ewing, and her sister Doris Pomerening. She leaves behind her three sons, Douglas (Marijeanne), Dennis (Linda), and Dean (Debbie), five grandchildren, Steven, Brian, Alicia (Jaime), Melissa (George), and Kimberly (Shawn), seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Zachary, Addison, Kolby, Samantha, Olivia and Lucas, one niece and four nephews.

A graveside service to honor Lois’ life will be held on Friday, March 25th, at 2:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Lacey, WA.

A special thank you to the nurses and caregivers at Roo-Lan Healthcare Center and Providence Home Health and Hospice for the gentle care given to Lois.
